Chhath Pooja 2023

Chhath Puja is a Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, Surya, and Chhathi Maiya (known as Usha in the Vedas), who is considered the sister of Surya. The festival is primarily celebrated in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttar Pradesh, as well as in other regions with Bihari and Maithili-speaking populations. Chhath Puja typically spans four days, and it is observed on the sixth day of the Hindu month of Kartika (October-November). The rituals are rigorous and include fasting, holy bathing, and standing in water for long periods of time. Devotees offer prayers to the setting and rising sun, and they express gratitude for the energy and life force provided by the sun.
